Mp3 entered the building nervously.  Her first day at Guardian Academy.  She stepped in the door and stood against the wall of the crowded room.  A girl stood next to her, looking just as nervous.  She had pale aqua skin and shimmering, forest-green hair, and she was about 4 inches taller than Mp3.  She glanced up at her neighbor and grinned.

"Hi," she said, sticking out her hand, "I'm Proxy Sirvér.  I'm a new cadet here.  Well, I guess most everyone here is," she looked around the room, "Think this'll be any fun?"

Mp3 shook the hand unsurely, but smiled. "Yeah.  Yeah, I think it'll be pretty fun."

Proxy grinned again. "Yeah.  I've wanted to be a Guardian since I was tiny.  I just idolized the Guardian in my system.  What system are you from?"

   "A.C."

   "What's that stand for?"

   Mp3 shrugged.

   "What's your name?"

   "MiDi Pixel.  The third."

"Third?  I always thought it'd be neat to have the same name as my mom or grandma.  Or both, in your case.  I think I already said my name's Proxy..."

"Yeah, you did."  This Proxy was really, something.  Did she ever shut up?

"Oh.  Sorry, sometimes I get carried away in conversations.  Or what passes for conversation with me, when I don't let the other person get a word in."

Mp3 smiled.  Maybe, just maybe, Proxy wasn't so bad.  It was the ones who didn't know they were yakity-yak-ing that really annoyed her.

   "MiDi..."

   "Mp3."

   "What?"

She sighed. "I don't like the name MiDi.  I prefer my initials: Mp3."

   "Oh, sorry.  Mp3?"

   "Yes?"

"We better sit down.  Someone's climbing up to the podium."

   "Oh.  Good idea."

The two girls found seats, even seats next to each other.
